The Beautifully Crooked Lines of Life

If you’ve ever looked at my art, one thing probably jumps out right away: the lines. They twist, turn, overlap, and sometimes just flat-out refuse to behave. And honestly? That’s the point.

Lines have always fascinated me, especially when I’m painting. They’re not perfect, and they definitely don’t always go straight. But here’s the thing—neither does life.

When I paint, those lines remind me that life doesn’t come with a neatly drawn map. It’s more like one of those “choose your own adventure” books, where you think you’re heading one way, and suddenly, the page is like, “Nope! New path for you!” Sometimes the twists and turns are fun, and sometimes they’re…well, less fun. But every curve, every corner, every unexpected detour is part of the bigger picture.

And the layers—oh, the layers! They’re probably my favorite part. When I slap on color after color, letting them blend, clash, and peek through, it feels like a reflection of life itself. Each layer represents a different chapter—a different choice, a different version of me.

There’s the bold layer, where I took risks and jumped in headfirst. There’s the softer, quieter layer, when I was figuring things out or maybe just needed a breather. And then there are the messy, chaotic layers, when nothing seemed to make sense, but somehow, it all came together anyway.

Here’s what I’ve learned while layering and lining my way through paintings: all those colors, all those crooked lines—they don’t erase each other. They build on each other. Just like life.

The choices I’ve made, the paths I’ve walked (or stumbled down), the people I’ve loved, and the ones I’ve lost—they’re all there. They don’t define me on their own, but together, they create something that’s uniquely mine.

So, yeah, when I paint, I don’t stress about getting the lines straight or making everything look “perfect.” Because life isn’t perfect. It’s not supposed to be. It’s messy and unpredictable and full of surprises. And honestly, that’s what makes it so damn beautiful.

If you’re ever feeling stuck or frustrated with the twists and turns life throws at you, just remember: every crooked line, every misstep, every unexpected turn is part of the masterpiece you’re creating. Keep going. Keep layering. And most importantly, let those lines be as wild and imperfect as they want to be. Because that’s where the magic happens.
