What’s Your Color Mood? How Colors in Art Speak Louder Than Words

Let’s talk about color. I mean, who doesn’t love color? It’s everywhere, and it’s doing so much more than just looking pretty. For me, color is like my secret language. When I paint, it’s not just about slapping some shades on a canvas—it’s about telling a story, sparking a feeling, or maybe even making you crave a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (hello, fiery reds and oranges!).

Every color has a personality. Take yellow, for example. It’s like the extroverted friend who always makes you smile. Yellow is sunshine, optimism, and that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when someone laughs at your jokes. When I use it in my art, it’s usually because I’m in a happy, hopeful place—or because I’m trying to be. (Sometimes you have to fake it ‘til you make it, right?)

Then there’s blue. Oh, blue. It’s the deep thinker of the color world. Calm, cool, and collected, but also a little moody when it wants to be. For me, blue is about reflection. It’s the color I reach for when I need to slow down and just be. It’s also the color of my favorite jeans, so there’s that.

Red, on the other hand, is drama central. It’s bold, loud, and doesn’t care if it’s making you a little uncomfortable. I love using red when I’m feeling passionate—about life, art, or just because I had too much coffee. Red demands attention, and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

And then there’s green, which I like to think of as the “chill vibes only” color. It’s nature, balance, and the fresh start you get after a good nap or a walk outside. It’s also the color of guacamole, which makes me love it even more.

The thing about color is that it’s not just about what I’m feeling when I paint—it’s about what you feel when you see it. That’s the beauty of art. Maybe you look at a painting and the blues make you feel peaceful, or maybe they remind you of the time you lost your favorite hoodie at the beach. (RIP, hoodie.)

Color can tell a million different stories without saying a single word. That’s why I love it so much. It’s like a bridge between my emotions and yours, connecting us in ways we don’t even realize.

So, what’s your color mood today? Are you feeling bright and sunny, deep and reflective, or maybe a little fiery? Whatever it is, there’s a color for that. And if you’re not sure what it is yet, just find some art to stare at. I promise, the colors will do the talking.
